Russian plane crash kills 31

[China Post]- A passenger plane has crashed about a thousand miles east of Moscow in Siberia. The death toll stands at 31. The other twelve people has been taken to hospitals with serious injuries.

Network Rail admits guilt in Grayrigg crash

[BBC News]- Network Rail accepts guilt over health and safety issues from the Grayrigg crash in Cumbria. This Virgin train crash killed one woman and left over eighty passengers injured. The train derailed at 92 miles per hour after traveling on a “degraded” set of points. The Network Rail chief executive, David Higgins knew that the company was to blame within hours after the tragic crash.

Russian city passes anti-gay bill

[St. Petersburg Times]- St. Petersburg, Russia has passed an anti-gay bill despite of world wide protests. The bill will make illegal “the promotion of sodomy, lesbianism, bisexuality and transgenderism.” Protests and petitions had asked for a no vote from politicians.

PM David Cameron trying to create more responsible drinking

[BBC News]- England’s Prime Minister, David Cameron is doing his best to tame alcohol abuse. He asks for bars, supermarkets, and drink industries to help in order to halt the 2.7 billion euro per year that drunkenness and alcohol abuse create. Cameron is forming ideas in order to stop this problem.

Argentina reports that UK sent nuclear sub near Falklands

[BBC News]- The Prime Minister of Argentina has claimed that the UK sent an armed nuclear sub near the Falklands. The British were forced to tell the locations of their submarines. Ban Ki-moon, the UN chief talked to both in order to avoid a conflict similar to the 1982 war over British oversea territory.

Russian Police Chief sacked, HQ sealed off

[St. Petersburg Times]- St. Petersburg’s Chief of Police Mikhail Sukhodolsky was removed from his position by Russian President Dmitry Medvedev. Special task force officers had surrounded police headquarters prior to the chief’s exiting the building.

Germany and Kazakhstan ink $4 billion agreement

[The Local]- Germany and Kazakhstan has signed documents agreeing to cooperate on $4 billion on natural resources and industry. Trade continues to grow between the two countries grew 20 percent last year. Questions are being raise in Germany over the agreement due to human rights concerns in Kazakhstan.

[CNN]- Large rallies took place in Moscow to show support for Vladimir Putin’s reelection bid and to protest Russian election fraud. Putin is slated to be the United Russia party candidate in next month’s presidential election. Billionaire Mikhail Prokhorov is running against him. Protests have taken place objecting to Russia’s parliamentary election results in December. The election for president will take place on March 4.

U.N. resolve on Syria brutality blocked by Russia and China

[LA Times]- Russia and China stopped the United Nations Security Council’s resolution for the violent attacks in Syria. The resolve was supporting an Arab League idea which might have quickened Syrian President Bashar Assad’s leave from office. Russia and China put a halt to the plans because they felt that the resolution by the U.N. was one sided and would only hold the government accountable, not the rebels wanting Assad to leave.

Norway terror trial convicts two

[USA Today]- An Oslo, Norway court has convicted two of planning an attack of a Danish newspaper. The sentences were set at seven and three and a half years for the first two found guilty of Norway’s new laws against terrorism.
