[USA Today]- An Oslo, Norway court has convicted two of planning an attack of a Danish newspaper. The sentences were set at seven and three and a half years for the first two found guilty of Norway’s new laws against terrorism.

US pirate attack frees two aid workers

Canadian arrested in bomb plot in Denmark

The National Post reports, “The FBI has arrested a Canadian for his role in an alleged terrorist plot against the Danish newspaper that published the controversial Muhamad cartoons.

Tahawwur Hussain Rana, 48, owner of First World Immigration Services, was charged with aiding a conspiracy to attack the Jyllands-Posten in Copenhagen.”

Greenland rejects new national currency

[IceNews]– Greenland will continue to use the Danish krone as its currency after the ruling government declined to adopt the National Bank’s new printed notes. Speaking in the latest parliamentary session Juliane Henningsen, political spokeswoman for the Innuit Ataqatigiit Party has said that the government will introduce a proposal to clarify its position on the currency debate.

Arabic translation of Danish commando book appears online

[IceNews]– Denmark was shrouded in controversy last week, following reports of a controversial book on Danish commandos and its translation into Arabic. It is believed that the Danish military unsuccessfully sought an injunction against the translation, according to the news source Politiken.

The translation was later revealed to be a simple, automatic on-line deciphering of the text rendering the book largely unreadable.

Danish Government drops controversial Burka ban

The governing Conservative Party in Denmark has decided to drop its contentious proposal for the banning of Burkas. As reported by Danish news source Politiken, the Minister for Justice Biran Mikkelsen said: “It’s obvious that neither I, nor a party such as the Conservative People’s Party, can support a proposal that raises that sort of legal issue”.

Mikkelsen’s statement follows the recent statement by Integration Spokesman Naser Khader of the Conservative Party, who said in August: “We don’t want to see burkas in Denmark. We simply can’t accept that some of our citizens walk around with their faces covered”.

Denmark dumps Iraqi refugees in favour of Burmese

The Danish immigration minister has made an about turn on her policy of accepting Iraqi refugees under the United Nations agreement. Just eight weeks ago Immigration Minister Birthe Ronn Hornbech announced that Denmark would be accepting a quota of refugees from the Arabic nation.

However, this week she reversed the decision, saying that priority would now be afforded to refugees from Burma residing in Malaysia. The minister also announced that Denmark would be refusing refugees from fellow Muslim countries Jordan and Syria.

Political majority supports higher fines for illegal climate activists

Taking part in illegal climate demonstration will cost up to 15,000 kroner under a Liberal proposal.

A proposal to toughen penalties for participating in illegal demonstrations during the UN Climate Conference in December has the support of a majority in parliament.

The prime minister’s Liberal Party hopes hiking the fines to as much as 15,000 kroner for offences such as breaking through police cordons will have the projected 30,000 activists expected in Copenhagen during the summit thinking twice before getting out of hand.

Many companies in danger of collapse

A total of 22 companies listed on the Copenhagen stock exchange are in danger of going bankrupt. Two of the companies have strong ties to Iceland: the Faroese oil company Atlantic Petroleum and the Danish brewer Royal Unibrew, in which Stodir (formerly FL Group) holds a 16 percent stake and Straumur holds five percent.
