News24 reports: “A suicide bomber blew himself up, killing seven commanders and 23 other people.

The headquarters of the armed forces blamed the bombing on ‘terrorists’ backed by ‘the Great Satan America and its ally Britain’.”

Military drill for Israel, US

[News24]– Israel and the United States will hold their biggest joint air-defence exercise next week, officials said, testing missile interceptors that would serve as a strategic bulwark in any future showdown with Iran.

The October 12-16 manoeuvres, dubbed Juniper Cobra, will be overseen by Admiral Mark Fitzgerald, chief of the US Navy’s Sixth Fleet and the most senior American officer to be involved in the biennial event, an Israeli official said on Thursday.

Ahmadinejad to Obama: You Made Big Mistake

[Fox News]– Iran’s president hit back Saturday at President Barack Obama’s accusation that his country had sought to hide its construction of a new nuclear site, arguing that Tehran reported the facility to the U.N. even earlier than required.

The Iranian president defended his government’s actions as the head of the U.N.’s nuclear monitoring agency, Mohamed ElBaradei, arrived Saturday to arrange an inspection of the uranium enrichment facility near the holy city of Qom.

[frontpagemag.com]– The Obama administration’s recent decision to scupper a planned missile shield in Eastern Europe was at least in part conceived as a diplomatic strategy aimed at Russia. By terminating a defense system that had aroused Russia’s ire, the administration had hoped to win Moscow’s backing for stiffer sanctions against Iran. But if that was indeed the administration’s thinking, it appears to have been baseless.

At first, to be sure, the new, diplomatic approach seemed to have paid off. Russian President Dimitri Medvedev sternly told Iran that it would have to prove it was not building a nuclear bomb or it would face “other measures.” Medvedev’s pronouncement seemed to signal a change in Russian policy on Iran, especially since Russia had previously vetoed strong sanctions against Iran in the United Nations Security Council.

Iran launches short-range missiles: report

[Xinhua]– Iran successfully launched short-range missiles and a multi-missile launching system in a war game carried out by the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) on Sunday, local English-language Press TV reported.

In a military drill dubbed The Great Prophet IV in a bid to bolster its defense capabilities by IRGC, Iran has tested a multi-missile launching system which launched a number of missiles including the home-made Fateh and Tondar missiles, Press TV said.

Miliband will not rule out force as Iran defiant

[Times Online]– The foreign secretary has refused to rule out the prospect of military action in Iran after the discovery of a secret nuclear facility, as officials in Tehran claimed the site will be available for inspection .

David Miliband said the the UK was “100 per cent committed” to a diplomatic resolution to the row and urged the Iranians to take steps to address widespread concerns at a meeting next week.

Iranian leader Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has come under mounting pressure over the existence of the site, buried in a mountainside near the holy city of Qom, but has insisted no international rules had been broken.

New Iranian enrichment plant triggers fears

Iran has revealed the existence of a secret uranium-enrichment plant, officials told The Associated Press Friday, a development that could heighten fears about Iran’s ability to produce a nuclear weapon and escalate its diplomatic confrontation with the West.

President Barack Obama and the leaders of France and Britain plan to accuse Iran of hiding the facility in an address at the opening of the G20 economic summit Friday, a senior White House official told the AP.

The official said Mr. Obama, British Prime Minister Gordon Brown and French President Nicolas Sarkozy will demand Tehran open the covert facility to inspections by the International Atomic Energy Agency.
