Two churches rocked by blasts in Nigeria

[News 24]- Two churches were bombed over night in northern Nigeria. There were no immediate reports of casualties. The group responsible for the attacks was not named, but radical Islamic sects have responsible for prior attacks against Christian targets.

The massive explosions are making it difficult for hospitals to cope with the large amount of injured people. Somali famine

[BBC News]- It is said the by the time the food famine in Somali ends, tens of thousands of people will have succumbed to the starvation. Somali’s malnutrition is expected to continue for the next six to seven months. They have the highest malnutrition rates in the world.

Niger’s new 24 hour curfew

[BBC]- Protests on ending oil production caused a massive uproar in Niger. The governments decision to stop fuel subsidies resulted in Nigerians targeting the homes and offices of politicians. In order to regain structure and control in Niger the government implemented a 24 hour curfew to the state of Niger. This curfew has also been implemented in the state of Kaduna after similar protests occurred.

Kenya forces say they thwarted holiday terror plot

Sixty militants suspected of planning terror attacks were killed over the holidays in Kenya. Sacbee.com reports, “Kenyan authorities said Saturday that they had thwarted attempted attacks by an al-Qaida-linked Somali militant group over Christmas and the New Year, as Britain warned its citizens over looming terror threats in Kenya.

Col. Cyrus Oguna, a Kenyan military spokesman, said officials received intelligence from credible sources that the Somali militant group al-Shabab was planning an attack over Christmas and New Year.”
